Here is another burnin’ tenor sax solo by another relatively young sax player I discovered on Youtube. I’d like to introduce the saxophone world to Sam Dillon if you don’t already know him. I discovered Sam a few years ago but this is the first saxophone solo of his that I have attempted to transcribe. Why? Because they are usually too darn fast! (Same reason I don’t transcribe a lot of Coltrane, Brecker and Bergonzi solos…….) This solo seemed a bit more medium tempo so I gave it a shot. It was hard though! Usually a solo takes me like 3-4 hours to complete. This one took me about 10 hours in total.

If you want to check out more from Sam Dillon you can read Sam’s bio here on his website. He also has a great CD recently released called “Force Field” and an older CD of standards called “Out in the Open” that you can check out! Also, do yourself a favor and go to this page from his website with a Slow Blues on it! You can definitely tell Sam has studied the lines of John Coltrane right? I just heard this and now want to transcribe this one as well……
My wife always asks me why I have to practice so much? Well, it’s because of young guys like Sam who remind us all that we need to practice! Thanks for the great solo and inspiration! Hope you all like the solo as much as I do. Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments you might have in the comments section below this post. Steve
